01 · About the service

Refurbishment restores the spindle to full function for a fraction of the price of a new one

Buying a new spindle means a cost in the hundreds of thousands to millions of crowns. Refurbishment restores the machine to full function, usually within 2–3 weeks of receiving the part and for a fraction of the purchase price of a new spindle. If the spindle's construction is not critically damaged mechanically, refurbishment is in the vast majority of cases a significantly more economical choice.

Refurbishment is not a makeshift repair — it includes complete disassembly, replacement of worn components (primarily spindle bearings and seals), cleaning, regeneration of the taper bore if needed, and verification of geometry and balancing. The resulting spindle is comparable to a new unit in terms of accuracy and service life, and leaves the workshop with a warranty.

02 · Decision

When to refurbish and when to buy a new spindle

Situation Recommendation
Noise and vibration, backlash, hot-running bearings Refurbish — the typical scenario, bearings at end of life
Reduced machining accuracy with sound mechanics Refurbish — replacing bearings and re-adjustment restore accuracy
Cracked housing, broken shaft end, severe mechanical damage New spindle — refurbishment makes no sense
Burnt-out motor winding in motor spindles Individual assessment — sometimes possible, sometimes not
If you're unsure which category your spindle falls into, send us a description of the problem and photos — the diagnostic assessment is offered free of charge and only then do we decide whether refurbishment or a new unit makes more sense.
03 · Proces

How the process works

  1. Receipt and initial diagnostics

We receive the spindle together with information about the machine and a description of the problem. We perform an initial inspection — runout measurement, bearing backlash, visual check.

  2. Disassembly and inspection

The spindle is disassembled and the individual components are inspected (shaft, bearings, seals, taper bore, motor in the case of a motor spindle).

  3. Quotation

We issue a detailed price quote with the scope of work and a list of parts to be replaced.

  4. Refurbishment (after your approval)

Replacement of worn components, cleaning, correction of the taper bore if needed, and reassembly with the prescribed bearing preload.

  5. Measurement and verification

Checking runout, geometry, speed and thermal behaviour during a test run.

  6. Run-in

We run the spindle in up to 4,000 rpm. The rest of the speed range needs to be run in directly on the machine according to the manufacturer's prescribed procedure.

  7. Return shipment with report and warranty

We send the spindle back with a measurement report and a warranty on the refurbishment performed.

04 · Scope

What we refurbish

  • Spindles with manual tool clamping (BT, ISO, MAS-BT) and automatic tool change (HSK, BBT, Capto)
  • Spindles with mechanical transmission (belt-driven or geared)
  • Motor spindles with an integrated motor — refurbishment of the mechanics (bearings, seals); we assess the motor individually
Limitations: spindles with critical mechanical damage (broken shaft, cracked housing, severe seizure) cannot be refurbished. For motor spindles with a damaged winding we always assess individually — sometimes it's worthwhile, sometimes a new one is better.
05 · Podklady

What we need from you

  • The spindle ready to ship (protected against further damage during transport)
  • Machine type and serial number
  • A description of the problem and the circumstances in which it started
  • Drawing documentation of the spindle, if you have it — it speeds up the process but is not a requirement
